You're The Autopilot Family
You're not crazy for feeling it. There's a real pattern underneath what your family is living, and there's a real fix for it. Here's what it actually is.
The pattern
Things in your house aren't loud. They're just moving.
The days go by. The routine runs. Nobody's really fighting — but nobody's really with each other either. If someone asked how everyone in your family was doing this week, you'd want to give a real answer, and you'd realize you don't actually know.
You're so busy keeping the family running that you've stopped noticing what's actually happening inside it. Stress doesn't show up as explosions in your house. It shows up as drift.
What's happening in your nervous system
Your body stopped flagging the stress.
Chronic low-grade sympathetic activation has become your baseline. The stress signal has been on for so long that it doesn't register as a signal anymore.
Blunted interoception
The clinical term for what's happening: your ability to read your own internal state has gone quiet. You're not numb on purpose. You're numb from adaptation.
This is why "just be more present" doesn't work — the wiring you'd use to be present has been muted to keep you functional. No advice, no app, no journaling habit can land if the underlying signal isn't reactivated first.
The fix
This is an Awareness problem.
Awareness is the first pillar of our ARCC method — and for Autopilot families, it's the only place healing can start.
It isn't mindfulness as a feeling. It's the deliberate, structured rebuilding of the signal itself. Until you can feel what's happening in your own body and your own family again, no other intervention sticks. This is why almost every parenting framework fails Autopilot families: they skip step one.
Why we built this
We've lived this too.
As physicians — a pediatrician and a child psychiatrist — we spent years on autopilot ourselves. High-functioning on the outside, missing each other on the inside.
"I think I might be depressed."
Mark quietly responded: "Me too."
That moment changed everything — because it forced us to ask: if two physicians trained in child mental health were silently struggling at home, how many other families were too? We started building a framework — for ourselves first, then for our patients. The Family Reset starts where we had to start: getting the signal back on, on purpose.
Your next step
The full framework — taught live, by physicians.
This 4-week program walks every family through all four ARCC pillars in the right order. Awareness is your first week, but you'll need all four to make the shift hold.
