You're The Reactive Family
You're not crazy for feeling it. There's a real pattern underneath what your family is living, and there's a real fix for it. Here's what it actually is.
The pattern
The temperature in your house runs high.
Small things turn into big things. Voices get loud. Someone storms off. An hour later it cools down, but the residue stays — the eggshell feeling, the bracing, the apology that isn't quite enough. You love each other. You're also exhausted by each other.
Emotions in your house don't have a release valve, so they release as eruptions. Everyone is reacting to everyone else's nervous system. The blow-up isn't the problem. The dysregulation underneath it is.
What's happening in your nervous system
Your amygdala is firing before your thinking brain catches up.
Reactive families run on sympathetic dominance — the gas pedal stuck partway down, the brakes slow to engage.
Amygdala ahead of prefrontal regulation
This is exactly why you can know precisely how you want to respond and still blow up anyway. You're not failing at willpower. The thinking part of your brain literally isn't getting the signal in time.
And because the gas pedal has been used so often, the parasympathetic off-ramp — the recovery system that should bring you back down — has gotten weaker from underuse. You go from 0 to 100 fast and from 100 back down slow.
The fix
This is a Regulation problem.
Regulation is the second pillar of our ARCC method — and for Reactive families, it's where everything has to start.
Until the nervous system off-ramp gets rebuilt, communication and connection can't take. You'll just be talking calmly until the next blow-up. Regulation has to come before relationship — that's the order, and the order is the whole point.
Why we built this
We've lived this too.
We know what it's like to be the calm physician at work and the reactive parent at home. The exhaustion, the regret, the loop you can't seem to break.
"I think I might be depressed."
Mark quietly responded: "Me too."
That moment forced us to ask: if two physicians trained in child mental health were silently struggling at home, how many other families were too? We started building a framework — for ourselves first. The Family Reset teaches the regulation skills we had to learn the hard way: for ourselves first, then for our kids.
Your next step
The full framework — taught live, by physicians.
This 4-week program walks every family through all four ARCC pillars in the right order. Regulation is your second week, but you'll need all four to make the shift hold.
